Kolby Hay was between the pipes for the Oil Kings in the loss, making 24 saves as Edmonton falls to 1-8-1-0 on the year.

The Oil Kings ended up getting on the board first midway through the frame after Wiebe’s shot found its way through traffic and past Hildebrand.

However, just a few minutes later, the Raiders would tie it back up. Allan got the puck on the blueline and fired it into a sea of bodies where the puck found the far side of the net and curled in. The score would remain tied heading into the second period.

Not too long after the puck dropped at the start of the second and there was a scary moment right off of a faceoff.

Harrison Lodewyk high sticked Dawson Seitz and ended up drawing blood which meant an extra long four-minute powerplay for the Oil Kings. After the call for high sticking was made, there was a slight delay before play resumed because the officials did not know who committed the penalty, but they eventually came to the conclusion that it was Lodewyk and play resumed. After some patchwork was done, Seitz would return to the game wearing a full cage instead of a visor.

The Raiders would take the lead a short time later thanks to a beautiful short-handed play from Kosior. The Regina product was sprung on a breakaway and made no mistake by going forehand to backhand and then upstairs on Hay to give PA the 2-1 lead after two.

Five minutes into the third and tempers started to boil over.

Justice Christensen and John Szabo decided to settle some differences and drop the gloves. The short tilt was a powerful one with the two going blow for blow, but it would be Christensen who came out on top by knocking the Oil King forward to the ice. Instead of skating to the penalty box, Szabo headed to the bench and to the locker room where he was favouring his right hand. He ended up returning a short time later.

With three minutes to go, Edmonton pulled Hay for the extra attacker but they couldn’t find a way to score as the Raiders snap their four-game losing streak with a 2-1 win.

A quick turnaround now for the green and gold where they will be in Red Deer in less than 24 hours to face the Rebels in game two of their 3-in-3 weekend.
