Mintos salvage single point in shootout loss to Bears

Oct 23, 2022 | 5:16 PM

ESTEVAN, SK – The Prince Albert Mintos managed to snag a point in a shootout on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Estevan Bears 4-3 at Affinity Place.

The loss comes 24 hours after losing to the same Estevan team 4-3 in regulation.

PA netminder Brady Holtvogt made 31 saves in the loss as the Mintos fall to 4-5-0-1 on the campaign.

Estevan goalie Riley Deck stopped 33 shots to help the Bears improve to 3-8-0-1 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Van Taylor got the party started for PA early in the first followed by Carter Cole not too long after to give the Mintos the early 2-0 lead.

But before the period ended, Raiders prospect Evhan Allan managed to find twine with a shot that beat Brady Holtvogt to cut the lead to one after one.

The Bears had a better middle period where they held PA off the board while Blaze Gutzke scored for Estevan to tie it up going into the third.

Roper Blanchard found a way to score to put the Mintos back on top early in the final period, but ten minutes later Allan scored again not only tie the game, but to send it to overtime.

OT solved nothing so the game went to a shootout.

Neither player from the first two rounds managed to score. But in round three, Allan scored yet again to topple the Mintos 4-3, and to sweep PA in the weekend set.

The Mintos are back in PA for their next contest where the Battlefords Stars will be in town on Wednesday night.
