Fiddler-Schultz explodes for five goals, Hitmen down Raiders

CALGARY, AB – Riley Fiddler-Schultz had a night to remember on Sunday afternoon, scoring a historic five goals in the game to help the Calgary Hitmen defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 6-2 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The loss is the second in as many nights for PA after losing to the Red Deer Rebels 3-0 on Saturday.

Four of Fiddler-Schultz’s five goals came in the first period and he scored the fifth goal in the early stages of the third period. His performance tonight also tied a Hitmen record for most goals in a game.

The other goal scorer for Calgary was Grayden Siepmann who scored in the second while six different Hitmen players collected assists.

For PA, Sloan Stanick and Owen Boucher lit the lamp while Landon Kosior, Evan Herman, Carson Latimer and Eric Johnston each had assists.

Max Hildebrand and Tikhon Chaika combined for 40 saves in the loss, as PA drops down to 3-8-2-0 on the campaign.

Hitmen netminder Brayden Peters made 29 stops in the contest as Calgary improves to 4-4-1-1 this season.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Things started off great for the Raiders, scoring just two minutes into the game.

Kosior’s shot was initially stopped, but Stanick was there to put the puck past a helpless Calgary goaltender to put PA up early.

But just minute later, things went from bad, to worse, to horrible, to disastrous.

Calgary’s Fiddler-Schultz tied the game up less than three minutes later before scoring again, and again, and yet again later in the same period. That’s right. The Hitmen captain scored four consecutive times in the opening period to give Calgary a 4-1 lead after the first. The scoring barrage ended Hildebrand’s night as Chaika came in for relief.

Believe it or not the second period was more exciting than the first. The middle frame got started with an early goal by Siepmann to put the Hitmen up by four. This got tensions to boil over and led Tyrell Goldsmith to fight Carson Wetsch where the fight lasted for about a minute and ended in a Goldsmith victory.

Shortly after the tilt, more fighting would erupt after the proceeding whistles with Boucher and Hayden Pakala getting in on the action. However, the physical play would lead to a scary moment towards the end of the period.

Evan Herman was driving hard to the net when a Calgary defender pushed him a little too hard, forcing Herman to run over Hitmen goalie. Peters was of course not happy and gave him a taste of his blocker. The Raiders forward was slow to get up but eventually left the ice under his own power. Unfortunately for PA, Herman would a receive a match-penalty as a result and was ejected from the game.

In the third, Fiddler-Schultz added his fifth goal of the game.

It wasn’t all bad for the Raiders with Boucher scoring his first in the WHL, but even with that goal it was too little too late as the Hitmen defeat PA 6-2.

The Raiders now have some time to collect themselves and regroup for their next game which will see the Swift Current Broncos visit the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday night.
