Snowy Conditions

Snow expected to leave just as fast as it came

Prince Albert and surrounding areas were hit by snow, but is it going to stick around?

The short answer is no.

“We do have some warm days on the horizon, so fear not, I don’t think winter is set in yet,” said Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.

There’s a chance the snow may be around for a day or two as there’s a chance of flurries throughout Monday, however, it should disappear by the end of the week when the temperature is expected to see highs above 10 degrees.

Lang, jokingly, noted the weather can change so quickly.

“We had such a beautiful fall; we were setting records last week and now we’re talking about snow.”

Environment Canada doesn’t measure snow anymore, but they estimate P.A. got around four cm while other communities like Melfort got around two cm.

The hardest hit area in the province was around Moose Jaw as they received between 30 to 40 cm.

While those in the P.A. area had to deal with some snow on their way to work Monday morning, it’s been a harder day for those in Moose Jaw.

“Roads down there are still closed because of the poor driving conditions, as well there’s a lot of power outages,” added Lang.

She explained there have been many power outages because branches can’t hold the weight of snow and leaves which causes them to break off and hit power lines.

Meanwhile, Lang hopes this snowfall serves as a reminder for people to get their winter tires.

Even with just a few cm of snow, it can make road conditions worse. She’s also reminding people to check the highway hotline before travelling.
