Celebration of Women Gala honours ladies from the tri-communities

Many ladies from the tri-communities were recognized last week at the Celebration of Women Gala hosted by Piwapan Women’s Shelter.

The event, which coincided with Piwapan’s 30th anniversary, included a supper, silent auction and awards ceremony.

Those recognized at the event were Dara Schindelka for arts and music, Emma Smllwodd for sports, Wanda Ratt for perseverance, Alaysia Ratte-Franks for youth, and Vivian Charmaine Charles for business.

Minnie McKenzie and Pam Sanderson were recognized for culture, Rebecca Slater, Melissa Cromarty and Marlina Ballantyne for education; Janae Brownley, Kara Schneider Ross and Shirley McLeod for justice activism; and Jolisa Ballantyne and Geraldine Frank for leadership.

Those named as pandemic heroes were Tammy Cook-Searson, Alex McKenzie, Sharon McKenzie, Lena Bird, Cherise Chrispen, Courtney Charles, Dolapo Onadare, Melissa McNeil, Emily Sanderson, Harmony Tait, Kayla Natomagan, Payton Franks, Tanis Ratt and Tracey Flicek.
