EDMONTON, AB Terrell Goldsmith played the role of overtime hero on Saturday night, helping the Raiders topple the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 at Rogers Place.

The win put the Raiders back into the win column after falling in their last two contests against the Portland Winterhawks and the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Assisting on Goldsmith’s overtime winner was Ryder Ritchie, who also potted a goal in the contest. Keaton Sorensen and Aiden Oiring also scored for PA, while Sloan Stanick and Eric Johnston each had an assist.

Carter Kowalyk, Gavin Hodnett, and Vojtech Port all had two points in the game for the Oil Kings, with Kowalyk netting a goal and an assist while Hodnett and Port had two. Rhett Melnyk and Rilen Kovacevic were the other goal-scorers for Edmonton while Cole Miller was the only other assist getter.

Tikhon Chaika made 13 stops to collect the victory, helping the Raiders improve to 15-23-3-0 on the campaign.

Logan Cunningham had 24 saves in the loss for the Oil Kings where they now fall to 6-34-2-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Raiders found themselves trailing after the first period when Kowalyk potted his third of the year to give the Oil Kings the 1-0 lead going into the second.

It was a much different story in the second when PA managed to break the goose egg. A Stanick shot was turned aside by the Edmonton netminder, but could get back in time for the rebound. Ritchie was there to bury the loose puck to pull the Raiders back to even.

In the late moments of the period, Sorensen toe dragged and snipped one past Cunningham on the short-handed rush to set a new career high in points, and to give PA the lead heading into the final frame.

The third period was a wild one as just 28 seconds in, Melnyk tickled twine on the powerplay to tie the game back up at two a piece.

But just a minute later, Oiring intercepted an Oil King pass in the offensive zone and netted his seventh of the season to put PA back in front.

Edmonton didn’t let off the pressure in the final minutes and managed to tie it up yet again courtesy of Kovacevic on the man advantage. Neither team could score again in regulation so to overtime they went.

The back-and-forth bout came to end at the midway mark of the frame when an unlikely candidate became the hero for the Raiders.

Goldsmith carried the puck into the Edmonton zone and dumped the puck off to Ritchie. The rookie forward then fired a shot at the goal to which Cunningham turned aside. The netminder thought he had the puck under control but instead, it sat in the crease where Goldsmith buried it to give Prince Albert the 4-3 overtime win.

The Raiders are back at the Art Hauser Centre for their next contest on Wednesday when they host the division-best Winnipeg ICE.
