Blazers surge late to overpower Raiders

KAMLOOPS, BC – The Raiders perfect run in BC has come to an end.

Prince Albert went into the final period tied with the Kamloops Blazers but a late pair of goals put the game out of reach for the Raiders as they fell 6-4 on Friday night inside the Sandman Centre.

The loss is the first on this road trip for the Raiders after winning their first three contests.

Ryan Hofer led the score sheet for the Blazers as he had a hat-trick and an assist. Daylan Kuefler and Conner Levis each had a goal and assist while Olen Zellweger and Kyle Masters both tallied two assists. Caeden Bankier also had a goal while Logan Stankoven, Matthew Seminoff, and Dylan Sydor all had assists.

Landon Kosior had a goal and an assist in the game and with that goal, the veteran tied Zellweger for the league lead in goal scoring among defensemen at 15 on the year. Sloan Stanick also had two points with a pair of assists in the game. Eric Johnston, Brayden Dube, and Carter Anderson each had a goal, while Seth Tansem, Hayden Pakkala, and Keaton Sorensen registered helpers.

Dylan Ernst made 22 saves against PA to help the Blazers improve to 29-10-4-2 on the year.

Tikhon Chaika turned aside 33 shots but the Raiders fall to 19-26-3-0 on the campaign.

A wild opening frame saw the Raiders come out on top after falling behind by two.

Levis got the party started just three minutes into the game before Hofer added another a short time later to give Kamloops the early lead. The Raiders responded in a big way just two minutes later when a point shot by Johnston found the back of the net for his second of the year.

Later, Prince Albert managed to square the game at a pair off a late period slapshot snipe from Anderson in the left circle.

Just over a minute passes before Kosior, on the man advantage, tallied his third goal and eighth point of the road trip to tie Zellweger as the leagues top goal scoring defensemen, and to give the Raiders the 3-2 lead heading into the second.

The goals didn’t stop there as in the Blazers started things off yet again. Hofer collected his second of the night while shorthanded to put Kamloops back to even.

The Raiders however weren’t having any of it as less than 20 seconds later, Dube tickled the twine off the rush to end his scoring drought and to help PA retake the lead.

Fast forward to the final minutes of the period and Kuefler scored the equalizer to tie it back up at four after two.

Unfortunately for the Green and Gold, the Blazers added two more in the final frame where Hofer finished his hat-trick and Bankier capped it off as Kamloops took it 6-4.

The Raiders close out the BC portion of this road trip tomorrow night when they visit Kelowna to square off against the Rockets. Puck drop is at 9:00pm.
