Mintos hand Maulers pair of losses in weekend sweep

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Mintos brought out the brooms over the weekend as Prince Albert dealt the Yorkton Secon Maulers back-to-back 6-1 defeats at the Art Hauser Centre.

The wins come after a 2-1 shootout victory against the Saskatoon Contacts back on Wednesday night.

Nolan Patterson led the scoring party on Saturday where he tallied two goals and an assist. Roper Blanchard and Ashton Tait both had a pair of points each registering a goal and an assist in the game while Scott McLean had two assists. Carter Cole also found the back of the net for the Green and Gold while affiliate player Corvan Stewart tickled the twine in his first career game. Carson Olsen, Abinet Klassen, Konnor Watson, Kelan Simmonds, and Logan Pickford each had helpers in the game.

The lone goal for the Maulers was the game’s first which was scored by Kaidon Mah while Leo Jewitt and Lucas Hvidston both collected assists on the play.

Blake Sittler and Wyatt Bouvier both spent time in net for Yorkton where they combined for 14 saves.

Jayden Kraus was between the pipes where he made 18 stops for the Mintos win.

Sunday was much of the same story as Saturday’s contest where PA won by the same 6-1 score.

Logan Pickford paved the way for the Mintos with a goal and two assists while Tait and Logan Beebe each had two goals. Simmonds also had two points with a goal and an assist and Klassen joined the parade with two assists of his own. Olsen, Watson, Blanchard, Owen Dyck, and Cole each added assists in the game as well.

Kyle Weisgarber had the single lamp lighter in the second for the Maulers while Shaden Duliak and Edward Knittig had the helpers on the play.

Like on Saturday, Sittler and Bouvier both played in the game where they combined for 24 stops as Yorkton falls to 13-20-0-3 on the year.

Brady Holtvogt got the nod for the Mintos, turning aside 21 shots to help PA improve to 17-16-0-3 on the campaign.

The Mintos head to the Battlefords for their next matchup where they’ll face the Stars on Wednesday night.
