Nipawin-born golfer Cole Taylor will attend Park University Gilbert in Arizona in the fall.

Taylor, Grade 12 student at L.P. Miller, started playing soccer as a youngster before turning his summer activity focus to golf. He received a set of golf clubs in Grade 9 and has been “hooked” ever since. Taylor has been playing competitively for the past two seasons, and started his school search about five months before deciding on Park University.

“It’s right in Arizona, the warmth we don’t get in Saskatchewan,” Taylor said. “I will be able to golf all year round. I think that will really help my golf game develop a lot.”

Gilbert, Ari., has a population of about 270,000 people, while the campus has approximately 11,000 students. The Park Buccaneers compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Taylor will study business while attending the university. He hopes it leads to a career in the industry.

“My goal is to play golf my whole life and if am not playing competitive I want to become a coach or club pro in the future. I really love the game,” he said.

Heading into the summer before he leaves for the United States, Taylor is looking forward to the Golf Canada NextGen Prairie Championship being played at his home course in June . He is also looking to perform well at the provincial championships and qualify for nationals. He said junior golf in Saskatchewan is exciting right now.

“I think this is a huge upcoming summer for Saskatchewan junior golfers. There is a lot of commitments down in the States and I and proud to be a part of it,” Taylor concluded.
