The Prince Albert Mintos saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as the Regina Pat Canadians completed the first-round sweep.

The Pat Canadians won 4-1 in Game 3 to win the series, after winning 6-3 in Game 1, and defeating the Mintos 4-3 in Game 2.

Konnor Watson scored the lone goal for Prince Albert in the third period with Logan Pickford getting the assist.

Jayden Kraus had 28 saves in the loss, being named the Star of the Game for the Mintos.

Mintos head coach Tim Leonard said it’s a difficult loss for the team and they’re doing their best to pull together.

“They’re dejected, no doubt about it. It’s a tight group, a fantastic dressing room. There’s five guys probably moving on.”

When speaking about Kraus, Leonard had nothing but praise for his number-one goalie and the future he will have.

“I think he’s going to have a good career ahead of him,” Leonard said of Kraus, who made appearances with the WHL’s Victoria Royals and SJHL’s Nipawin Hawks this season. “He provided a chance for us to win every night.”

Plans are already in full seeing for next season with recruiting and welcoming new and returning players.

Leonard also took the chance to thank the community for its support through the regular season and playoffs.

“P.A. likes good hockey and the fans were supporting, and the kids, myself and the program appreciates them for that.”

While the Mintos are out of the postseason, Regina continues its run as they await their second-round opponent.
