Lloyd hockey player and his team fall short in NCAA College hockey tournament

Mar 24, 2023 | 11:18 AM

A Lloydminster hockey player and his University team won’t be living the dream of being national champions.

Defencemen Daniel Hilsendager and the Western Michigan Broncos fell in the opening round of the U.S. Men’s College Hockey Championships, 5-1 to Boston University.

Boston University will now play Cornell who beat the defending champion Denver Pioneers 2-0.

During the 2022-23 season, Hilsendager had 42 shots, scoring two goals and netting five assists.

The 22-year-old former Bobcat has 15 points in three seasons with the Broncos.

Saskatchewan will still be represented in this year’s tournament as Kindersley goaltender Justen Close and the number one-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers moved on to the second round after beating Canisius on Thursday.

They will now face St. Cloud State for a chance to advance to the Frozen Four in Tampa Bay.
