Melfort Arts Council to host adjudication and workshop

Apr 14, 2023 | 5:17 PM

The Melfort Arts Council (MAC) is set to host an art adjudication and workshop, deemed ‘a transformative experience of creativity and constructive feedback.’

The ‘one-of-a-kind event that will bring together talented artists for a day of inspiration,’ is happening April 22 at the Melfort Wildlife and Federation Shooting Club.

Artists are required to submit their entries by Saturday to be able to take part.

Submissions must be at least three works completed within the past three years, with two-dimensional artworks framed and ready for hanging, and three-dimensional works free-standing.

“The Art Adjudication and Workshop is a unique opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their work and receive valuable feedback from experts in the field,” said the Melfort Arts Council in a press release sent to northeastNOW.

The adjudication process is based on the criteria and requirements set forth by the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils, in order to ensure a fair and professional evaluation of the artworks.

Each artist will be allotted a 40×40″ area to exhibit their works, and the event encourages participation from both visual artists and craftspeople, to allow for a diverse range of mediums and styles.

The adjudicator for this year’s event is Belinda Harrow, who was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, but now resides in Regina.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Saskatchewan, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and a Master of Fine Arts from Canterbury University in New Zealand.

Her work has been exhibited in Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, China and Thailand, and she has received numerous awards and grants for her artistic endeavours.

“Harrow’s expertise and experience make her the perfect adjudicator to provide valuable feedback and guidance to the participating artists,” added the MAC.

In addition to the adjudication process, the event will also include an afternoon workshop where artists can learn and share ideas with other creatives.

The MAC believes that art is not only a product but also a process, and the adjudication and workshop will offer a transformative experience for artists to grow and improve their craft.

They also said the workshop provides a unique opportunity for artists to further their development and expand their visual perception and critical and creative skills.

“We are thrilled to host the Art Adjudication and Workshop and provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work and receive valuable feedback from a renowned adjudicator like Belinda Harrow,” said Joanne Bolen, Chair of the MAC. “This is an exciting opportunity to further their artistic journey.”
