SJHL draft features several players from P.A.

The 2023 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) draft wrapped up Thursday with a number of local players having their names called.

With the sixth pick overall, the Nipawin Hawks chose Prince Albert’s Will Whitter. The 5,10”, 154 lb forward had five goals and five assists in 40 games played with the Prince Albert AAA Mintos last season.

In the third round and selected 25th overall was 16-year-old Jordan Abrametz from Prince Albert. Abrametz who is 5’9” and 154 lbs had 14 points as a defenceman with the Prince Albert Vulcans U18 AA team last season. He was drafted by the Meville Millionaires.

The Melfort Mustangs called two 2007 born players from P.A. in round 4 of the draft. Forward Lincoln Rogers had 11 goals and 15 assists for the Vulcans last season. Goaltender Josh Henry, who stands 6’4” and 190 lbs, also suited up for the Vulcans. Between the pipes for 17 games, Henry had a 1.85 GAA and .943 SV%.

And in the sixth round of 2007 born players drafted was Prince Albert’s Nash Kurniski who went 66th overall. He spent last season with the Battlefords Stars U18 AAA team and had two goals and two assists. The 6’1”, 159 lb forward was chosen by the Nipawin Hawks.

This year’s SJHL draft had two rounds of 2008 born players; however, no ‘08 born players from Prince Albert were selected.
