Hope’s Home hosts annual golf tournament Friday

A beautiful day in the forecast and lots of golfers signing up are a double dose of good news for Hope’s Home with their big summer fundraiser.

Friday will be the ninth annual golf tournament for Hope’s Home at Kachur’s Golf Club. They’ll have cash prizes for hole-in-ones on three par three holes and have had plenty of teams from local businesses sign up.

“We still do have room for some teams so it’s only too late on Friday at 11,” said Mickey MacGillivray, provincial fundraising manager with Hope’s Home. “Any time before that, you can call me and I would still get you in.”

The day is a chance to, as MacGillivray put it, “network and get away from the office for a while” and also to support Hope’s Home. While nice weather for big events is never a guarantee in Saskatchewan, this tournament appears to be getting lucky again that way.

“The sun gods have always shone on us except for one year when it was cold,” MacGillivray said. “It’s supposed to be a very nice day, so bring lots of water and try to stay hydrated.”

Hope’s Home provides care to kids who have complex medical or other needs outside of a hospital setting. They have nurses, early childhood educators, developmental workers, and other specialists on their staff. Keeping the operation running can require a lot of fundraising from events such as this.

“Lots of it (the money raised) does go to our operations,” said MacGillivray. “When you own a historic building, there’s often things that come up, new roofs, whatever the case may be. Lots of the money raised go to either operations or supporting programs like therapies that aren’t supported by any ministry. So the dollars are super important to help us do what we do every day.”

With the need to raise so much money, MacGillivray said it was good to see local businesses lining up to support the event.

“It is a lot of businesses around the area that partake and it is a great day to network with other companies,” MacGillivray said. “We have a lot of personal teams this year also. It really is a great day to get out and forget about life for a day.”

MacGillivray added they had prizes to give out besides those at the hole-in-one holes but those are often secondary to the fun atmosphere of the day and the money raised.
