Bringing artists back to the alleys of Melfort

Filled with local artists and musicians, the annual Back Alley Tour is back in Melfort on July 20.

Organizer of the Back Alley Tour Sandra Dancey told northeastNOW that the event is meant to draw people to the community and showcase what Melfort has to offer.

“It was to bring a little bit of a big city to a smaller city as part of the downtown revitalization of Melfort,” she said.

A stage, booth and local artist will be set up in the back alley east of Main Street between Burrows and McLeod Street.

Dancey explained the event not only brings life to the downtown core but also to those participating in the event.

“It’s beneficial for artists from this neighbourhood,” she said. “The running joke was many of them work in the back alley and don’t get to meet other artists.”

Not only will people be able to meet these artists, but two other artists will also be working on a mural.

“Linsey Levendall and potentially Carla Tyacke will be working on murals in the back alley,” Dancey said.

There will also be chances for attendees to participate in workshops such as intuitive impressions.

For those wishing to attend as a vendor, the Northern Light Gallery is accepting vendors until the night before the event. This is to allow for as many participants as possible.

“It doesn’t cost you anything to participate. You just bring your own display stuff.”
