The board of the Woodland and Waterways Regional Visitor Centre has hired a general manager.

The corporation announced on Tuesday Breanna Parbst would be taking over the position. The position has been open and the centre has been closed since Judy Hanke resigned at the end of April.

“Breanna comes to the position with a background in community, recreation and economic development,” a press release issued by the board states.

“She previously served as the business support officer with Visions North Community Development Corporation and, prior to that, worked with the Town of La Ronge as the economic development officer.”

The board believes Parbst’s credentials will be an asset in the role of general manager. She hold a diploma in Recreation and Community Development from Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Although board chairperson Ryan Veteri previously told larongeNOW he hoped the centre could reopen by the second week in August, there is yet to be an opening date set. There’s has been a lot of work to reopen, however, with the hiring of a new accountant, the acquirement of a full board and the settling of debt.

In May, Air Ronge council approved a $25,000 loan for Woodlands and Waterway and La Ronge council provided a grant for the same amount. The visitor centre was kept afloat with yearly contributions of $25,000 each from Air Ronge, La Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

Those who sit on the Woodlands and Waterway board also includes co-chairperson Josy Roske, Shelly Lobb, Tania Colbert, James Hope Howard, Krista Funk, Kevin Roberts, Viviana Ruiz-Arcand, Corey Hardcastle and Kristy McDougall.
