Canoe club ready for annual Eagle Point Classic
Everyone is welcome to register for the 29th annual Eagle Point Classic hosted by the Pimiskatan Canoe Club.
Registration will occur Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. at the Eagle Point boathouse with the 18-kilometer race scheduled to start at 10 a.m., followed by the seven-km race at 11 a.m. The 18-km race goes through Downton Lake to Nut Portage and then back via McGibbon Bay (three portages), while the seven-km race goes down McGibbon Bay, around a small islet and back with no portages.
The total purse for the race is about $1,000 with the majority of the amount being awarded in the 18-km race. First place is $300, second place is $200 and third is $100.
The fastest mixed and female teams will also each receive $100.
