After a wildfire forced its cancellation in B.C. earlier this month, the 13U AA Western Canadian Baseball Championships are starting this weekend in Prince Albert.

Last week, Prince Albert Minor Baseball announced they would host the rescheduled tournament from Sept. 1-3.

The original tournament started in Kelowna on the weekend of Aug. 18. However, before the opening game even finished, the Royals were called off the diamond due to smoke from a nearby wildfire.

The team later found out that the championships were being cancelled.

Now, the Royals have a chance at redemption and hope to claim the Western Canadian title on their home diamond.

The team’s first game goes at 1:00 p.m. against Consort at the Kinsmen Baseball Complex at Crescent Acres Park.

The opening ceremonies are set to go at 6:30 p.m. at the complex.
