Minor football recap: Mixed results for River Riders

It was a mixed bag for the Prince Albert River Riders football teams over the weekend as the minor football season continues.

The Bantam River Riders beat the Clavet Cougars 19-7 on Sunday at Max Clunie Field.

“It was a very close game as many of our bantam games have been,” said Taras Kachkowski, the president of the Prince Albert Minor Football Association.

With the win, the River Riders improved to 2-1 on the season.

“It’s not the undefeated season that we had last year, but it’s a successful one for them nonetheless,” Kachkowski said.

Meanwhile, the Peewee River Riders lost to the Saskatoon Steelers and are now 0-3 on the season.

“We’ve always been a developmental program and we don’t need to necessarily care about the wins and losses so much,” said Kachkowski, who coaches the team.

Both River Riders squads are back in action again this Sunday Oct. 1.

Kachkowski added the league is trying to re-arrange the schedule to allow the Peewee River Riders to play more equal competition.

“It’s partially due to the large discrepancy in scores. They’re trying to pair up some closer in competition teams,” Kachkowski said.
