La Ronge’s Bill Storozuk was presented with the SaskEnergy Volunteer Champion Award at the Ice Wolves game on Saturday.

Storozuk rarely misses a game, having been a dedicated volunteer since the franchise began in La Ronge in 1998. He explained receiving the award on Saturday was a surprise as nobody had told him beforehand he would be getting it.

“It’s appreciated. It’s not something I was expecting or anything like that,” Storozuk said.

He mostly dedicates his time to off-ice official duties such as timekeeping, scorekeeping, and working the penalty box. He has also volunteered at Canada Day events and the Elks Fair for the Ice Wolves doing tasks like cooking burgers.

Storozuk called hockey a good, fast-paced sport he enjoys watching and being a part of.

“I was just your basic street kid hockey player,” Storozuk noted.

“I started back when I was five or six years old and sort of played right up until midget, I guess, then I basically hung up my skates after that. I love the game of hockey.”

He added he loves the game, while the Ice Wolves and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League are a good team and league to volunteer and cheer for.
