Northern Lights School Division looking to hire professional recruiter
The Northern Lights School Division (NLSD) is seeking to hire a professional recruiter in a bid to alleviate a longstanding teacher shortage.
“The idea came about through conversations that we had by our staff, senior management and by the board,” said NLSD director of education Jason Young.
“We scanned our environment …to see what others were doing that was effective. We seen one in terms of the profession recruiter concept that came from another division that’s similar to ours and so, based on their experience, we thought we could give that a go. I just think in light of this teacher shortage, we can’t stay complacent, we need to be responsive and aggressive in our effort to try and recruit teachers, and this is part of our strategy.”
The recruiter will be responsible for several initiatives like showcasing the school division through its vision, mission, and values; liaise with other agencies, divisions, and departments to build and manage relationships with key stakeholder groups; and attend and present at job fairs, along with host open-house events promoting the division at universities, colleges and other post-secondary institutions.
