Downtown BID plans festive day of activities in North Battleford

Dec 8, 2023 | 6:00 AM

Santa and even the Grinch will be strolling through downtown North Battleford on Saturday handing out gifts during the North Battleford Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) day of events to celebrate the holidays.

Executive director Kori Humenny said it will be a great way for people to shop at the downtown businesses at the same time.

Humenny is looking forward to bringing back the fun tradition this year.

“It hasn’t happened for a few years,” she said. “Come by, check it out and enjoy the beautiful downtown.”

A number of fun events will take place during the day.

On Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., families will have a chance to participate in a sleigh ride, make some crafts and meet Santa.

A DJ will be out front of the movie theatre playing Christmas Music to get people in the holiday spirit.

They can also catch a free movie – the new Grinch show – at the Capitol Annex Theatre at 9:30 a.m.

People can then do some shopping and take advantage of the free gift wrapping for items purchased at any of the downtown businesses.

Humenny is encouraging people to visit the shops and pick up a Shop Downtown Passport. When they get eight or more stamps from the 12 businesses taking part, they have a chance to win in a draw for over $1,200 worth of prizes from participating businesses.

“Look out for that,” she said. “They [people] have until [Dec.] 20th to collect stamps.”

Humenny noted many businesses will be running their own in-store specials during the day.

“I hope it’s a nice, clear warmish day,” she added.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., adults and youth will have an opportunity to participate in the Shoot to Win hockey event. For $10 for adults or $5 for kids taking part, people can try for three shots on the net. There’s also a chance to win some great prizes.

After that, a 3-on-3 Hockey Tournament with the Battlefords North Stars is planned from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is at noon on Dec. 9. Participants must pre-register to take part.

Both hockey competitions will take place at the City Hall parking lot.

Humenny said the day of fun activities is a good way for people to re-discover all the businesses in downtown North Battleford and start their Christmas shopping.

“It’s going to be a great day,” she said.
