Manslaughter charge stayed for Hatchet Lake man accused of killing son

A man accused of killing his son has been granted a stay of proceedings.

Donald Mercredi Sr.’s matter was spoken to at court in Wollaston Lake.

On Nov. 16, 2022, RCMP were called to a home at Hatchet Lake First Nation for reports of an altercation.

Donald Mercredi Jr., 28, was found injured and declared deceased by paramedics.

Donald Mercredi Sr. was arrested at the scene and charged with manslaughter.

A stay of proceedings halts prosecution of the case. If the Crown decides to recommence proceedings, they have up to one year to do so. Otherwise, the case is considered concluded.
