Nominations for ‘Snow Angels’ in North Battleford now open

As the snowflakes fall, keep watch as there may be angels about.

With the first snowfall of the season now underway, the City of North Battleford is once again launching the Snow Angels program.

“The purpose of the program is just to give recognition to our good neighbours in the community because there are many of them,” said City Clerk Stacey Hadley.

She explained if you see someone helping remove snow for someone else, clearing sidewalks, or even helping to unstick a vehicle, you can nominate them to be a ‘Snow Angel.’

“At the end of each month it goes into a draw for that period with the city and the mayor generally does that draw in open council,” she said. “Everybody that was nominated for that month goes into the bucket as well as all of our active community boutiques and restaurants, stores – things of that nature.”

A single name and business name is pulled out and the person gets a $50 gift certificate to that business. All Angels will also receive a certificate of recognition signed by the mayor and have their names read out.

Last January, 30 people were nominated and in 2022 there were 33 January snow angels identified.

“The purpose of the snow angels recognition and just reading them out in council and the draw is to obviously support our good neighbours but try and…snowball – no pun intended – that whole idea that we should all be good neighbours.”

More information, including how to properly nominate someone, can be found on the City of North Battleford’s website.
