Work on a significant infrastructure project is taking place on Central Avenue.

The city’s public works department has started on the underground utility and roadwork between 22nd St. and 27th St.

A notice from the city said, “This significant infrastructure project will enhance the reliability of our water system, improve stormwater mangement, and provide a smoother driving experience for residents.”

Roadway milling is scheduled to begin first with the underground construction commencing Monday.

There will be periods during construction when local traffic will not be able to access driveways. (Logan Lehmann/paNOW)

Scope of Work:

  • Replacement of the cast iron water main
  • Installation of a new storm sewer
  • Construction of new concrete curbs
  • Repaving of the roadway

The work will take pace in stages. No water service interruptions are expected and the city said there will be periods during construction when local traffic will not be able to access driveways. Parking will be prohibited in the marked orange zone and within a 30-metre radius on all neighbouring streets and avenues.

Limited and restricted parking will also be in place for events like Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, Canada Day on July 1 and KidzFest planned for July 18.

The work is expected to last eight weeks, weather permitting.
