Tender awarded for Nipawin Heliport project

Another major hurdle has been cleared in the quest to build a heliport at the Nipawin Hospital.

The Twin Lakes District Planning Commission (TLDPC) announced on Monday that CandorBuild Construction has been awarded the tender to build the heliport.

TLDPC Chair Jerry Kindrat told northeastNOW they’re thrilled to award the tender to CandorBuild Construction.

“He, in turn, will be keeping most of the work locally to a lot of the contractors, subcontractors locally,” said Kindrat. “That was our intent, and we’re happy about that.”

Kindrat said there will be an opportunity for questions from the contractors, and construction will commence the first week of July.

The TLDPC was also pleased that the cost of the project is lower than anticipated.

“It’s certainly coming in under budget and we can’t ask for any better news than that.”

The estimated price tag had been $800,000 or more, while the tender came in at just over $650,000. However, the most important aspect of the project is improving patient care.

“Shortening up patient transfer, reducing the risk, and the stability of the patients,” said Kindrat. “That’s certainly the intent and our goal.”

He said Transport Canada will be advising on the project, giving instructions with their operations manual, and if there are any changes or upgrades required, they will advise the TLDPC.

The goal is to finish the project in September.
