Pioneer in Sask. beauty industry sets sights on being elected MLA

A woman who built her successful beauty business from the ground up, and has won numerous awards for it, is now trying her hand at politics.

Erin Nicole Spencer is the Sask United candidate for the constituency of Batoche. She told paNOW she wants to create change and show everyone they have the power to make a difference.

“I do feel within my business I have created a lot of community initiatives that do have this aspect to them but I think at this time I did just really see the need for change in the community on a larger scale and I wanted to get involved,” she said.

While currently residing in Warman, Spencer spent much of her life in Prince Albert. The Batoche constituency stretched between these two communities, and is familiar to Spencer through years of serving clients in the area. Spencer also has two daughters and acknowledged they too played a role in her decision to run.

“I want them to grow up in a world where their voices are valued and where they can affect change and be heard,” she explained.

From pioneering the lash extension industry in Canada to opening Saskatchewan’s premier lash extension studio, Spencer feels her strength as a leader lies in her ability to innovate, lead, and uplift others.

Her efforts earned her notable recognition, including the Samuel McCloud Young Entrepreneur Award in 2018 and the Best of the Best paNOW Awards for Best Esthetician and Best Lashes in 2014.

“As a business owner I have to listen to my employees and my clientele in order to deliver fair and beneficial solutions. I’ve also had to do that in my role as a mother of two,” she said.

With respect to issues, Spencer commented she’s generally been hearing from a lot of people who feel they are not being heard by their elected official. Other issues she’s passionate about are the cost of living and providing quality health care in rural areas.

When asked what attracted her to running for the Sask United party, Spencer explained she found they were real genuine people who had created a grassroots movement and were passionate about creating real change that would benefit the province.

“I saw real common sense change being created by people who were also connected to their communities,” she said.

The Sask. Party candidate in this constituency is Darlene Rowden and for the NDP it’s Trina Miller.

As of Wednesday, the writ had not yet been dropped.
