Green candidate splits time between city and farm

Oct 22, 2024 | 10:22 AM

The Green Party candidate for Prince Albert – Northcote is a city-dweller who spends time on the farm as well.

Jarren Jones is running against incumbent Alana Ross and NDP challenger Nicole Rancourt, who was MLA before Ross.

Jones was born in Meadow Lake and grew up in Waldheim and worked in care homes after graduation.

That inspired him to chase a career in education and healthcare science. During his studies, he worked as an EMT in an ambulance and then graduated from the laboratory clinician program at SaskPolytech.

For the last four years, Jones has worked at the Co-op Health Centre Lab in Prince Albert, something he said gives him the knowledge of the internal workings of the system and the ability to improve it.

Jones also raised sheep near Meath Park on a partially off-grid farm. There he grows and harvests hay for the sheep, using solar panels for power.

He understands the struggles rural and urban residents face and how the cost-of-living crisis has affected both.

He is also an avid volunteer with the Legion in Paddockwood.
