Intense fire destroys storage unit in Melfort

UPDATE: Fire Chief Leonard Whitney told northeastNOW the cause of the fire is not known.

He said a firefighter was treated at the scene after becoming overheated but was uninjured.

Earlier version:

A dangerous fire in Melfort could have been much worse if it wasn’t for the efforts of the Melfort Fire Department.

The fire at a storage unit on the 100 block of Burns Ave. W. started at around 8 p.m. on Monday.

The crews were able to contain the fire to the storage facility and prevent it from spreading to the adjacent apartment block or other nearby properties.

The facility was completely destroyed.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and we will update the story should more information materialize.
