Dwayne Mysko looking to serve as ML city couoncillor

A man who has spent the majority of his life in Meadow Lake is once again seeking a seat at the table.

“I have ran a couple times in the past,” said Dwayne Mysko.

“I guess plain and simple, my desire is that Meadow Lake is a place that my children and grandchildren would want to call home.”

Mysko, who grew up on a farm outside the community and has a large family, said he hoped to create an environment where it would also be affordable to live in the city.

“I think we’re heading down the proper path,” he said, adding that while he doesn’t feel the city needs a lot of change, they could improve upon accessibility.

“Besides being a gateway community, cause there’s a lot of smaller centres to the north of us, that I think we could be a gateway to.”

Comparing Meadow Lake to other gateway communities like North Battleford and Prince Albert and having industries such as farming and forestry allows for the creation of new jobs.

“In terms of that, the city needs to focus on supporting that industry and then looking at ways to grow other industry,” he said referring to investing more in trucking.

“A lot of our industry around here is manufacturing, between lumber, (Oriented Strand Board) and pulp and the support services that they require,” Mysko added asking whether the city was doing everything they could to help manage transportation.

The first thing the candidate said he would want to do if elected to city council is listen to those who sat at the table before him.

“I’m really hoping and I would think that there will be some of our veteran councillors getting re-elected,” he said.

For anyone coming into the chamber as a freshman, Mysko wishes they take the opportunity to learn as much as they can before they develop an opinion – something he admits can be a struggle.

“My opinions, what they are today may not be the case a while from now if I do get elected once I have more information.”

As someone who has spent a lot of time travelling around Saskatchewan and Alberta, he said the city has done a good job with taking care of the community.

“I think we do a lot of things well. It’ll be really exciting to see…the arena come into play, and come into being available for use to see how that will help bring people to our community,” he said.

“Ultimately, everybody wants somewhere where they can a: make a good living and enjoy the fruits of their labour.”
