Raiders honour superfan LaPlante with special dedication at Art Hauser Centre

Section 14 at the Art Hauser Centre now holds a special meaning.

A plaque now sits at the top of the concourse dedicating that section to late Prince Albert Raiders superfan Trevor LaPlante.

“Friendly, excited, passionate, everything you’d want to be around,” Raiders Executive Director of Business Operations Cliff Mapes said of LaPlante. “If you love to have positive people in your life, he would be somebody that was like a magnet.”

LaPlante was tragically killed this past July at the age of 52. His accused killer’s preliminary inquiry is set for March.

Ken Malenfant, who grew up with LaPlante and owned the McDonald’s LaPlante worked at, said his passion was so well-known that people would drop by the restaurant to give him Raider tickets or offer him rides to the rink on game nights.

“When we won the championship a few years ago, he was on cloud nine,” Malenfant recalled. “He just thought that was the greatest thing- so did we all, but Trevor took it to another level and wore his Raiders gear more than ever.”

In addition to his favourite section being dedicated to his memory, the Prince Albert Raiders have also put two season tickets in his name to be shared among staff, volunteers and families utilizing local Ronald McDonald House services.

The team also raised $10,000 in a special 50/50 for Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan.
