A man and a woman from Tisdale were arrested in Hudson Bay after officers spotted a truck at a home that had earlier been reported stolen from Nipawin.

Hudson Bay RCMP found the stolen truck on Albert Street on November 14, parked in a back yard.

When they approached with their emergency lights on, the truck started, accelerated and hit the passenger side of the police vehicle, disabling it.

The driver in the suspect vehicle then struck the police vehicle again and the occupants refused to get out as they were trying to escape.

The officers broke one of the vehicle’s windows to gain entry but the driver continued trying to escape so he was tasered the officers who then arrested him.

The passenger was also arrested.

James Whitehead, age 22, of Tisdale is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, assaulting the officers with a weapon, failing to stop for a peace officer, resisting arrest and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Also charged is 30-year-old Sabrina Kelly of Tisdale. She is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and obstructing a police officer.

Both were remanded into custody pending court appearances in Melfort today.

Hudson Bay RCMP are advising that a number of stolen items were in the vehicle and people who have missing possessions from Hudson Bay and surrounding detachment areas should call their local detachment.
