Mustangs head to Kindersley for lone Southwest trip this season

Nov 22, 2024 | 1:00 PM

The Melfort Mustangs are hitting the road to Kindersley today to battle with the Klippers for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night.

The Southwest trip is the only time that the Mustangs will visit the Inter Pipeline Arena this regular season. Melfort and Kindersley have already met once before this year, back at the Northern Lights Palace on Oct. 18 when the Stangs came out on top by a score of 5-1.

Five different players on the Blue and Green put the puck in the back of the net that night, while assistant captain Zac Somers made his season debut with a pair of assists.

Kristian Coombs won the matchup, stopping 24 of the 25 shots that came his way.

Now fast forward a month and the Klippers have just two wins in their last eight, compiling an 11-9-1 record through 21 games, good for the seventh spot in the league’s standings.

Meanwhile, for the Mustangs, they are currently riding a three-game win streak, and are winners in nine of their last 11 games. They also sit in the top spot in the SJHL, both in the power rankings and actual standings, with 14 wins and 28 points through just 18 games.

Kindersley may come in a little tired this weekend as they were in Notre Dame on Tuesday and Wednesday, splitting their two-game road set with the Hounds.

On the other hand, Melfort may be a little more rested than usual, having last played on Saturday. They were supposed to head to Yorkton on Tuesday to battle with the Terriers for the first time this season, however, the game was postponed due to weather/road conditions.

This Friday and Saturday’s games between the Stangs and the Klippers will both begin with 7:30 p.m. puck drops from Kindersley.

All the action can be caught on CJVR as Ben Tompkins will have the call, starting with the 7:15 p.m. pregame show.
