The Battlefords North Stars got back in the win column last night as they beat the Flin Flin Bombers 3-2 in overtime at the Access Communications Centre.

In the first period, the North Stars came out strong, putting on early pressure and physicality which resulted in a goal from Jace Rask to put the Battlefords up 1-0.

Then only a few minutes later, the North Stars found themselves on a powerplay and were able to find the back of the net again, this time from Braden Nienaber to take a 2-0 going into the intermission.

Coming out for the second, the North Stars had lots of momentum but as the period went on, the Bombers started to take the edge.

The Bombers ended up out shooting the North Stars 13 to 4 in the second and were able to grab a goal to make it 2-1 going into the third.

For the third period, the North Stars had trouble getting into the offensive zone and the Bombers continued to apply pressure. Eventually Flin Flon was able to strike the nylon again to tie the game 2-2.

Throughout the rest of the third, the Bombers had good chance after good chance to end the game but Justen Maric held it down in between the pipes to force overtime.

Then in overtime, the North Stars finally kicked it into gear and it was Rylan Williams who was able to light the lamp and win the game 3-2 for the North Stars.

The North Stars got outshot 35 to 17, went 1/4 on the powerplay and stopped Flin Flon all four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric stopped 33 of 35 shots in the contest.

Battlefords now sits at 15-8-3-2 on the season with 35 points, putting them back at second overall in the league.

The North Stars next game is Friday, December 20th as they head to Kindersley to take on the Klippers with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
