Trojans come back to beat Blazers on Sunday

Dec 16, 2024 | 10:02 AM

A big six-goal outburst in the third period lifted the Tisdale Trojans to a 7-6 win over the Saskatoon Blazers at the RECPlex on Sunday.

The Blazers led 4-1 after two periods, with Cooper Atkinson scoring the lone Trojans goal.

Sean Shiels and Justin Whitrow scored two goals in the first minute of the third to cut the lead to one, with Pryce Thiessen tying the game with a powerplay goal about seven minutes later.

Jacob Tait scored on the man advantage less than three minutes later to give the Trojans an one-goal lead, but Saskatoon tied the game at 5 while shorthanded.

A Blake Girard goal on the powerplay with just over two minutes left gave Tisdale a 6-5 lead, and Carter Geysen scored an empty netter to seal the deal. A Blazers goal with four seconds left wasn’t enough.

The Blazers beat the Trojans 6-3 on Saturday, with Carter Geysen, Bryce Thiessen, and Sean Shiels scoring Tisdale’s goals.

The Trojans are now 13-7-5 on the season and sit one point back of the Prince Albert Mintos for fourth place in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League.

Those two teams will square off Wednesday in Tisdale. It’s the Trojans’ final game before the end of 2024.
