East Hill shooting case proceeds to trial

Following a lengthy delay, a Prince Albert shooting case that dates back to last February is back on track.

Trial dates have now been secured at provincial court for Harley Theriault, who had dismissed his initial lawyer.

Not guilty pleas were entered last June to aggravated assault and multiple firearms related offences.

In the late evening of Feb. 28, police were called to the 700 Block of 22 Street East, near Cooke Municipal golf course.

The victim, a 25-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, was transported to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Through their investigation, police learned the suspects involved in the shooting had gone into a home on the street, which police then blocked off and tried to contact the suspects inside to no avail.

The Emergency Response Team was called and by 8:30 the following morning, three suspects left the house and were arrested.

Prince Albert police confirmed this was not a random act.

Another man, Brennan Sewap, was previously wanted by police for unrelated matters, and was only facing breach related charges.

The third person arrested, a 31-year-old woman, was released with no charges.
