It was the final tournament of 2024 for Battlefords United Football Club (BUFC) as they had 12 teams in attendance and brought home some hardware at the Hollandia Off the Wall Tournament in Saskatoon Dec. 6-8.

For their three U9 Co-ed teams, they had a great weekend, getting some goals and finding their confidence while showing grit on the field.

There were also four U11 teams at the tournament. The U11 Girls – Beloud were relentless in Division 2 and ended the weekend with three big wins. The U11 Boys – Nguyen worked hard throughout the weekend with came home with a 2-1 record in Division 3. For the U11 Boys – Wiese team, they entered the tournament in Division 2 and had a solid weekend, boasting a 2-1 record. Then lastly, the U11 Boys – Spence also entered division 2 and didn’t lose all weekend as they finished with two wins and a tie. Overall, it was another great showing for the U11 teams as they all worked very hard and saw results with incredible success on the field.

In the U13 age group, the boys battled in Division 2, playing hard and leaving it all out on the field which resulted in them winning two games and tying one in the round robin. Unfortunately, despite their great effort, missed the semifinals by a small margin. Then for the U13 Girls, they played their hearts out and were rewarded for it, bringing home their first ever silver medal.

Representing the U15 age groups were three teams, and they all flashed their brilliance on the field. The U15 Boys – Bull team played in their first game this season and grew as a team throughout the weekend while representing the club well. For the U15 Girls, this was also their first tournament and they had an exciting weekend, ending their final game in a shootout to bring home a silver medal. Then the U15 Boys – Leger team continued their successful season and remained unbeaten to bring home their second Gold in Division 2 this season.

This was the BUFC’s third tournament this season and they continued to show that they are building a top tier program that has some of the best competition in the province.

Now the club will have the Christmas break before they return in January for an action-packed rest of the season.

“We are so proud of their hard work and growth. Our athletes will enjoy some well needed rest over Christmas and return in the new year to host club days, and five potential tournaments” said Kat Huxley, Technical Director of the BUFC.
