Drunk driver, responsible for pedestrian’s death, awaits sentencing

Jan 20, 2025 | 5:12 PM

A sentencing date has now been confirmed for a man who while driving drunk in a reported stolen vehicle, struck a pedestrian.

James Misponas will appear at La Ronge Provincial Court on April 30.

A guilty plea was entered on Oct. 31, 2024, to a single charge of driving while intoxicated, causing death.

On Sept. 29, 2023, Misponas struck a 56-year-old man while driving near the La Ronge Avenue and Nunn Street intersection. The man passed away from his injuries the next day.

RCMP noted Misponas, who was 21 at the time, would hit another vehicle after striking the pedestrian with one of the occupants suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle driven by Misponas had been reported as stolen to RCMP.

Misponas allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot but was stopped by bystanders who prevented him from leaving until police arrested him.
