The latest Labour Force Survey from Statistics Canada reports that Saskatchewan’s unemployment rate is tied for the lowest among provinces, with a percentage rate of 5.4 in 2025 and well below the national average of 6.6 per cent.

The province also saw an increase of 9,900 jobs compared to January 2024, highlighting continued economic growth.

“Saskatchewan continues to regularly have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation as our economy creates more jobs and opportunities,” said Deputy Premier and Immigration and Career Training Minister Jim Reiter in a statement.

“Our government remains committed to growing access to health care and education while making life more affordable for Saskatchewan residents.”

Job growth across key sectors

Full-time employment in the province increased by 3,000 jobs year-over-year, with female employment up 4,300 and male employment up 5,400.

Several industries saw significant job growth, including Construction, which added 6,300 new jobs; Health care and social assistance, which added 5,900 new jobs; and Agriculture, which added 3,500 new jobs.

Saskatchewan’s two largest cities also reported employment gains. Saskatoon added 10,400 jobs, while Regina added 1,200 compared to January 2024.

Growth across other economic indicators

Beyond job growth, Saskatchewan’s economy showed positive momentum in several areas. Retail trade grew 5.1 per cent year over year, ranking second among provinces.

Furthermore, building construction investment saw a 5.7 per cent increase month-over-month and an 11.8 per cent year-over-year jump.

The province’s economic success aligns with government initiatives such as the Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy, which aims to strengthen the workforce, and the Investment Attraction Strategy, designed to boost private capital investment to $16 billion annually.
