Donations needed at Miwasin Kikinaw

Feb 26, 2025 | 3:18 PM

A local Battlefords shelter is in great need of donations.

“We have been busy,” said Pearl Little, assistant co-ordinator of Miwasin Kikinaw.

“Especially during the cold snap we had and we needed mitts, toques, we need socks, toiletries – like the sample size toothbrush and toothpaste.”

Little explained that the shelter generally averages 18 people a night but during the extreme cold, that increased to over 20. The clients’ ages run the gambit from those in their 20’s to their 60’s. She explained while the weather is currently balmy, she doesn’t expect it to continue.

“We still have March to go, and we still could have a cold snap,” she said.

When the clients come in, they’re usually in need of some food and warmer clothing – especially socks as their shoes get wet. As such, they are in need of everything including blankets, towels, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene products and underwear.

For people who wish to donate, they are welcome to drop items off at the front door.

“They feel safe when they come here, safe and fed,” she said of the clients.

“We’re here to try and help whoever we can whenever we can.”
