The Battlefords have taken another bite out of bullying with the help of a pink cookie in the shape of a shirt.

“The premise and important message behind Pink Shirt Day really aligns with the core values of clubs across the country,” said Nicole Combres, executive director of BGC Battlefords.

“We make sure that the environments that we’re providing our young people in our communities that they’re built on belonging and welcoming and respect.”

The organization’s fundraising campaign saw another successful year, which raised money towards overall programming and over 950 cookies were sold.

“I think right off the bat, we perfected the cookie design,” she said of the large sugar cookies baked by Discovery CO-OP.

“For some of us cookie lovers, that’s a really great thing.”

Now in its fourth year, Combres said that they don’t have the numbers from their point-of-sales campaign and have seen hundreds of the paper shirts on the windows of the CO-OP Discovery locations.

“When you’ve gone to purchase some gas, or maybe some groceries the…employees would have been there to ask you if you wanted to purchase a paper pink shirt where you could display your name and take a stand against bullying,” she said of the campaign.

“We’re really, really grateful for the community support in either way that they’ve participated,” she said, adding they have also received donations.

In the meantime, Combres and her team are grateful to the community and the CO-OP Discovery for their never-ending support.

“As a non-profit organization with few guaranteed dollars year to year and considering the rising costs of everything really, it’s really important that we have these fundraisers,” she said.

“If it wasn’t for our community, we wouldn’t have the organization that we have.”
