La Ronge council approves Water Treatment Plant automation funding

La Ronge council approved $26,250 to the Lac La Ronge Regional Water Corporation as their portion to fund Water Treatment Plant automation upgrades.
The decision to do so was made at a regular meeting on Monday. According to documents submitted by the corporation, the upgrade will amalgamate four separate systems into the main control system.
A portion of the control system on the ultrafiltration process failed in 2022 resulting in water shortages and restrictions due to insufficient capacity to meet demand. At the moment, the work is either completed or near completed.
The entire project cost $750,000 with the town responsible for 42 per cent, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band was responsible for 41 per cent, and Air Ronge was responsible for 17 per cent. Funding from the Northern Municipal Trust Account paid for the vast majority of Air Ronge and La Ronge’s share in the project.
