Humboldt assessing roofs on city-owned facilities

The City of Humboldt is assessing the condition of municipal building roofs.

They have awarded the Municipal Roof Condition Assessment request for proposal (RFP) to Tri-Tech Pinnacle.

The cost of the RFP is $12,920 plus applicable taxes.

Director of Community and Leisure Services Michael Ulriksen told northeastNOW the bid process resulted in 18 applications that were reviewed and scored within a scoring matrix. The contract was awarded to Tri-Tech Pinnacle based on that scoring process.

Ulriksen said it’s been a long time since an assessment took place.

“The last roof condition assessment took place in 2003, and only for [a] small complement of buildings,” said Ulriksen via e-mail. “The condition assessment is an important step in a healthy asset management process for municipal infrastructure.”

Ulriksen said it’s important to evaluate the current condition of the roofs and provide guidance on the expected lifespan and maintenance to ensure the roofs integrity remains intact.

“Like any other asset, preventative maintenance programs and a quick response to maintenance issues is vital to ensure that the roofs remain in good condition,” said Ulriksen. “Faulty roofs within any of our facilities result in water infiltration into the buildings, which [can] result in other damage that could impact the functionality of those facilities.”

There are thirteen buildings being assessed by Tri-Tech Pinnacle, including the Uniplex, City Hall, and various other public works, cultural, and recreational facilities. The 2003 assessment was done on only five city-owned buildings.

The city hopes to have the full process completed in late spring.
