A Carlton High School student hasn’t even graduated yet, but is succeeding in the local art world.

Ryder Hogan, who is in Grade 11, will have her work featured exclusively at the John M. Cuelenaere Public Libary for the month of May.

Hogan said she had a lot of emotions run through her when she learned she would be having her own show.

“I felt a lot of joy and I was also very surprised that I am even able to get my art this far in my life,” she said.

“I never thought that my art would ever be in galleries or ever have its own show. I always just believed that I would just be an independent artist and would only ever be able to show people I knew.”

Hogan is a relatively new Saskatchewan resident, having moved with her family three years ago from Alberta.

Most of her inspiration is internally generated.

“I create art from my heart rather than from a theme or like a repeating idea,” she explained.

“I like to just create what I want to create, and I like to experiment with different styles and different colors. Sometimes I’ll think of an idea, and I’ll just start sketching it out and then I can’t stop.”

Given her desire to become an art teacher, starting with high school students and possibly expanding to university, Hogan is pretty confident in the odds she can turn her passion into a career.

“I love to show others how to create. I love telling people how they can express themselves, what they can do to make their art better,” she said. “I just love teaching people in general.”
