‘A temporary measure’: New four-way stop in downtown Meadow Lake after signal malfunction

May 29, 2025 | 4:41 PM

The City of Meadow Lake has installed new four-way stop signs at the intersection of Centre Street and 2nd Avenue after the traffic lights failed.

“It’s a temporary measure,” said interim city manager Neil Marsh. “The traffic signals failed, for lack of a better term, and needed some significant repair that won’t be happening anytime too soon.”

When asked how long the replacement might take, Marsh said it would require “a significant amount of money, but other than that, I wouldn’t want to speculate on how long it will be.”

Until the signals can be repaired or replaced, Marsh said the four-way stop is in place to help ensure safety for both drivers and pedestrians at the busy downtown crossing.

“It seems to be working acceptably well to function as a four-way stop,” he said. “Again, not as ideal as having properly functioning traffic lights, but it is working for now and hopefully will continue to work adequately until the lights can be repaired or replaced.”

Anyone with questions about the traffic change can contact the city at (306) 236-3622 or email cityhall@meadowlake.ca.
