UPDATE: Sucker River, Wadin Bay, English Bay, Nemeiben ordered to evacuate; La Ronge on standby

UPDATE 2:27 p.m. : Individuals in the communities of Clam Crossing and Sikachu have been ordered to start evacuation immediately. If you can self-evacuate and find accommodation, you must use Highway 165 west to Beauval and make your way to Prince Albert to the Prince Albert Urban Centre and register.

Any people who remained in Hall Lake during a prior evacuation notice must evacuate.

Individuals who can self-evacuate and find their own accommodations must use Highway 102 and proceed to the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre in La Ronge to register. If you require transportation, contact Northern Municipal Services.

A mandatory evacuation notice has been issued for Sucker River.

That’s according to Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) Chief Tammy Cook-Searson, who stated the advisement to do so came from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. The band is working to make arrangements for transportation as soon as possible.

They will also work with the Red Cross on accommodations. The meeting place for Sucker River residents will be the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre (JRMCC). Sucker River is a community of approximately 400 people.

The LLRIB was also advised to place the tri-communities and Stanley Mission on standby notice as the Pisew fire is 16 kilometers away from La Ronge. In the event of an emergency, the road to Stanley Mission will be compromised.

On Sunday, leadership from the tri-communities released a statement telling residents to be prepared in case of an evacuation. The notice mentioned the tri-communities were in a heightened state of awareness and that fire crews were working to clear old fire breaks, move equipment into place and strengthen defences.

It is recommended residents top up their gas tanks and keep a small bag of essentials ready. A fresh air centre has also been established at JRMCC and residents should monitor reliable sources for updates.
