Annual guitars and car show back at Dekker Centre Sunday

Jun 4, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Get ready for some squeelin’ wheels; the third annual Guitars and Cars Show and Shine is back at the Dekker Centre this weekend.

“It’s just growing, and as more and more people hear about it and word of mouth, we get bigger and bigger and everybody enjoys it,” said Greg Korpatch of Bent Rodz Car Club.

This year, the event will be held on June. 8 and will begin at 10 a.m.

“We do have limited seating for the bands on the foyer there so, we also encourage if you’re wanting to or if you need to, you can bring a chair, like a camping chair,” he said.

Beer League and Stereo Playground will set the mood with musical sets that comprise classic rock n’ roll along with original tunes as people walk around and check out the cars.

“There’s quite a few folks around town that have had vehicles as kids and they managed to keep and hold on to ’em and restore ‘em,” he said of the 80’s and 90’s era vehicles.

“Or even their grandparents or dad’s car, there’s a lot of that so, there’s a lot of sentimental value in quite a few of the cars that are local.”

Some of the vehicles that have popped up include old Mopars, Camaros, Novas and run from being completely restored to being in the process.

Korpatch explained 10 to 20 years ago being able to fully restore vehicles wasn’t as difficult to do.

“Now we’re facing duty and tariffs and difference in the (United States) and Canadian dollars,” he said.

“Things are getting rather pricey to be working on.”

Even trying to find the proper parts has become a challenge.

“That’s part of it too is trying to save some history, save some vintage classics that we can still enjoy,” he said.

For those who are trying piecing together vehicles like an older Chevrolet, parts are still pretty easy to come by. Others, however, not so much.

“You get into some of the unique things like an old Cadillac from the 40’s or 50’s or something vintage in that era, it’s getting pretty hard to find things.”

Anyone looking to see a specific favourite, there will be roughly 200 rat rods, funny cars, stock cars and more to browse through from over 100 years of automation.

“I think our oldest was in the 1920s and right fairly fluid we have a pretty, pretty solid mix,” Korpatch said.

In addition to music and cars, there will also be a tire burnout box, food venders and once again, will raise money for the Battlefords Humane Society.

“Even the goal of getting some adoptions that day as well,” he said, noting they hope to raise as much as they can.

“The more we can raise the better right to help them out, they’re always in need of food and things like that.”
