A 36-year-old man faces charges after allegedly setting fires in a ditch near Snowden.

Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP received a call about a small fire in the ditch beside Highway 55 near the Snowden turnoff early Tuesday morning.

The investigation determined that a man had started a fire which had been extinguished by the Smeaton Fire Department.

A Pelican Narrows man was arrested at the scene and is charged with one count of arson.

He is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is assisting in the investigation, and RCMP say the incident has not impacted the major wildfires affecting the province.
