Three organizations receive $20K cheques from Ripley Rumble

Three local organizations are reaping the benefits of the incredibly successful Ripley Rumble in Melfort.

The Professional Bull Riding (PBR) event was organized by Ripley Ford owner Mark Ripley and others, and was held in the lot beside the Ford dealership in June.

Between the money raised from the PBR, and a matching donation from well-known philanthropist Malcolm Jenkins, event organizers were able to present three $20,000 cheques.

“We’ve got to thank all of the sponsors in the community to come together for a great event to be in the position to write those cheques,” Ripley told northeastNOW. “It’s pretty humbling to be able to do it, but we certainly have to have the community support and people behind it to do that.”

Ripley also thanked Jenkins for his significant contribution to the donations, saying he always shows up to help the community through his generosity. He said Jenkins has been doing this for years and is a close personal friend.

“You can’t say enough about what Malcolm does in Prince Albert and all of northern Saskatchewan, and we’re lucky to have him around and thankful for his support as well.”

The PBR was a hit for event goers and organizers, and Ripley plans to hold it again next year. The event came together quickly, with just five weeks to be able to plan. Ripley hopes to make next year’s Ripley Rumble even bigger and having extra time to formulate and tweak will help achieve that goal. He credited the organizations and volunteers involved in making the PBR come to Melfort for the first time.

The organizations that received the three $20,000 cheques from the event proceeds and Jenkins’ donation include Melfort Fire and Rescue, North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF), and Youth Matter.

Youth Matter also posted their appreciation on social media, thanking Ripley Ford and Malcolm Jenkins for their generous donation. They said the money will be used to help fund several initiatives, including the “Be Kind to Your Mind” symposium for youth in October, other programming for youth, parents, and caregivers, online harms prevention and cyber safety education, and school mental wellness presentations.
