Jul 11, 2025 | 5:00 PM

Nipawin isn’t the only community celebrating 100 years this weekend.

The hamlet of Gronlid, north of Melfort, is also hosting a birthday celebration on Saturday and Sunday.

Activities begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday with a pancake breakfast at the Gronlid Hall. A parade down Main St. will follow at 10 a.m. with a celebration at the Community Park at 11, and officials recommend bringing your own lawn chair.

There will be free camping at the east end of Main St., and parking available on Main St. as well.

Activities include a petting zoo and fun zone, and food trucks will be on hand. There will also be face painting, a balloon artist, a wood carver, vendors, and horse and wagon rides. There will also be a car show, and adults can take part in horseshoes, corn hole, and ladder ball.

The official activities will be held at 2 p.m., featuring guest speakers and a birthday cake. There will be musical entertainment throughout the day, a beer garden, and the museum will be open to give people a chance to look back at Gronlid’s history.

A dance at the hall will start at 8 p.m., and you can purchase tickets at the door for $20. The Lenvale Elevators will be the entertainment at the dance.

A special fireworks show will be held at dusk Saturday night, while on Sunday, there will be an outside church service near the hall with brunch to follow.
